Rams cornerback Robert Ayers, a five-year veteran, will sign a one-year deal with the team, the team announced.

Ayers has been the Rams’ third-round pick in 2012, which made him eligible for the franchise tag.

Ayes, 27, has started in the past seven games, covering a career-high 69 snaps.

The former LSU All-American had 10 tackles and an interception for the Rams in 2013, and had 16 tackles and a sack in 2013.

He was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2015.

The Rams will likely make him a starter in the secondary.

The team released rookie safety Josh Evans in December.

Ayets is a native of El Paso, Texas.
